Big Pulpit

Hi everyone,

This blog is so exciting! Ha ha it’s going to be fun posting and commenting around.
To start, I was catching up on news and was led to this intriguing article by a New York Times twitter!

The article is about A.R. Bernard, and the header reads The Big Pulpit of the Rev. A.R. Bernard. It’s quite a spread – 3 pages long mind you – and reminds me of the time when our nation’s paper splashed a major article on a charismatic (not in the denominational sense) and humorous pastor, with their beloved new-building-in-progress and their oh-to-magnificent-building-fund (all sarcasm intended)… With only a small demeaning column beside it about City Harvest, clearly undermining their work in Singapore and around the world…

Hence, we all understand the power of the written press and the impact that it can produce on the masses. Remember, the tongue has power over life and death; the pen too possesses that quality.

How was this article written? Was it portraying A.R. Bernard in a good or bad light? Personally, I thought it was an article that slanted both ways in different parts of the article thus disguising itself as a “well-balanced” and “neutral” essay (sounds like GP, anyone?). However, the aftertaste left once you’ve read the article probably won’t be neutral especially from an outsiders point-of-view.

A fun thought: If you had to write a newspaper spread about Heart of God Church, how would you do it? How would you sound mature and convincing and present all the vibes and ethos of our church in a correct manner? How would you describe Pastors and their love for youth; picturing them the exact way they are?

Sincerely, I believe many of us won’t have an accurate answer until we’ve been soaked through and through with our DNA. A good journalist spends a day or two vacationing the places and interacting with people concerning their story. A dedicated and exquisite journalist commits his or her entire life to their research and work, eventually falling in love with the very thing they write about.

Their story becomes their life.

I challenge you, get connected and interact with Pastors (even if you don’t get to talk to them physically, it’s so easy now with Facebook and Twitter) – you’ll realize how amazing they are and why our church is so strong! Post on their facebooks! Read their twitters! Pastor’s twitters are Seowhow and Lia_Chan! You can find their facebook “How Tan” and “Cecilia Chan”. Ha ha okay the fact that they are so savvy already have me wow-ed!

Be committed to know what is the heart of God, truly. Draw closer to your Leaders, because you only know Heart of God Church when you know the core that makes it happen. As we are the writers of our church, we need to dedicate ourselves to know the heart and core of it so that we can correctly portray it. It’s not a task. From experience (many will testify): We’ll fall in love with it. We’ll enjoy every moment of it. Nothing else will ever compare… You will check in, but never check out. (:

We know the body, now it’s time for us to know the heart and pulse that flows through it.

p.s. Ha ha, I couldn’t resist writing after not doing so for such a long time. It’s a bit lenghty but I’m sure you Writers can dig your way through it. (:

JUST WRITE

Welcome to Writing Ministry, where we just write, not for our own sake’s but His.

We love people and we love bringing life to people through every word that we write.

We believe words have the power to create.

Hebrews 4:12 (The Message)

12-13God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.

With God in our words, we can change the lives of people and be a light in the darkness :)
